Gal Gadot to star in a remake of To Catch A Thief

To Catch a Thief is the 1955 Alfred Hitchcock film that starred Cary Grant and Grace Kelly. It was based on the 1952 novel of the same name by David Dodge and was super cool and thrilling.

Grant played a retired cat burglar who has to save his reformed reputation by catching an impostor preying on the wealthy tourists of the French Riviera.

If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it as Hitchcock, Grant and Grace are a terrific trio. You can watch it here on Prime.

However, instead of rereleasing the original in cinemas, Paramount are working on a remake with Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman, Red Notice) set to star. https://variety.com/2022/film/news/to-catch-a-thief-remake-gal-gadot-1235151655/“>Deadline do not state details of the plot for the new film, but I imagine Gadot will be playing the role of the cat burglar this time round as that seems to be the way Hollywood do remakes now.

Oh no! What if this ends up becoming a Red Notice prequel? Let’s back away from that train of thought.

I know that people always go why remake the classics and I do understand that. However, as the original film was based on a book, then a new adaptation of that could work. Of course, as this is Hollywood, they’ll probably rip all of the good stuff from the Hitchcock film but implement it in ways that do not work.

Let us try and be positive (difficult though when talks of remaking a Hitchcock film are bandied about), as the basic idea behind the story is a good one that can have many different iterations.

The script for the new film is being written by Eileen Jones, who worked on the Fox series “Prodigal Son.”

Gadot will produce the remake with her partner Jaron Varsano through their company Pilot Wave. “Fast and the Furious’s” Neal Moritz will also produce.

All this has made me want to go and watch a load of Hitchcock movies.

What are your thoughts on this new project?
