Paul Verhoeven’s Benedetta gets a trailer

Benedetta is a new film by Paul Verhoeven. It stars Virginie Efira, Charlotte Rampling, Daphné Patakia and Lambert Wilson.

In the late 15th century, with plague ravaging the land, Benedetta Carlini joins the convent in Pescia, Tuscany, as a novice. Capable from an early age of performing miracles, Benedetta’s impact on life in the community is immediate and momentous.

The film is an adaption of Judith C. Brown’s academic work Immodest Acts: The Life Of A Lesbian Nun In Renaissance Italy. Verhoeven wrote the film with his Elle co-writer David Birke.

In French cinemas on July 9th 2021.
