Gordon Hemingway & The Realm of Cthulhu is the new film from Stefon Bristol and Spike Lee

Stefon Bristol (See You Yesterday) is set to direct Gordon Hemingway & The Realm of Cthulhu for Netflix, from an original screenplay by Hank Woon with additional revisions by both Woon and Fredrica Bailey.

Set in East Africa, 1928, the roguish Black American gunslinger GORDON HEMINGWAY teams up with the elite warrior PRINCESS ZENEBÉ of Ethiopia to rescue their kidnapped regent from an ancient evil.

That all sounds very pulpy and lovely. Count me in.

As you probably know, Cthulhu was created by H.P. Lovecraft, and the creature was last seen briefly in a dream sequence at the beginning of Lovecraft Country (the image above). I wonder if it really will be Cthulhu in this new film or will it just be another amorphous ancient evil?

Spike Lee, Lloyd Levin (Da 5 Bloods, Watchmen), Beatriz Levin (Da 5 Bloods, The Mauritanian) are producers on the new film.

Gordon Hemingway & The Realm of Cthulhu is Bristol’s second feature with Netflix. His directorial debut, See You Yesterday premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and was released globally on Netflix in 2019. 18 million households tuned into Bristol’s socially-conscious, time-travel adventure movie in its first four weeks and the film went on to win an Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay.

Lloyd Levin and Beatriz Levin initially optioned the spec screenplay from Woon and brought the film to Bristol and Lee.
