Scarlett Johansson will be the Bride in a new Bride of Frankenstein type film

This new film is not from the Universal / Blumouse movies that brought us The Invisible Man (I think that was the last film I saw in a cinema!) and the forthcoming Ryan Gosling Wolfman movie.

Instead, it sees A24 and Apple joining up for Bride, which is a Bride of Frankenstein type movie.

A woman created to be an ideal wife — the singular obsession of a brilliant entrepreneur — rejects her creator, and is forced to flee her confined existence, confronting a world that sees her as a monster. It is on the run that she finds her true identity, her surprising power, and the strength to remake herself as her own creation.

That’s the logline. Sounds a little bit like the recent Invisible Man movie with the obsessed man chasing after a woman who escapes from him. It sounds interesting and I am curious as to why the world will see her as a monster.

Scarlett Johansson is playing the title character while Sebastián Lelio (A Fantastic Woman, Gloria) will direct the sci-fi thriller.

According to THR, Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, who wrote the aforementioned Wolfman film, will write the screenplay with Lelio.

“It is long overdue for Bride to step out of the shadow of her male counterpart and stand-alone,” said Johansson. “Working alongside Rebecca Angelo and Lauren Schuker Blum, Sebastian and I are extremely excited to emancipate this classic anti-heroine and reanimate her story to reflect the change we see today.”
