Principal photography has begun on Prisoners of Paradise

Principal Photography has now commenced on AMG International Film Ltd’s Prisoners of Paradise. The film, starring Ellie Bamber (The Trial of Christine Keeler, Les Miserables, Nocturnal Animals) and Mehdi Dehbi (Messiah, A Most Wanted Man, The Other Son) is being directed by Mitch Jenkins (The Show, Showpieces) from an original screenplay by Alan Govinden and Jason Wingard and is Produced by Alan Govinden (Sulphur & White) for AMG International Film Ltd.

JJ Feild (Lost in Space, The Romanoffs, Ford vs Ferrari) and Amy Beth Hayes (Misfits, Mr Selfridge, Flack) join the previously announced supporting cast of Rupert Penry-Jones (Love Sarah, Vita & Virginia, Matchpoint), Rhona Mitra (The Last Ship, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans) and Edward Akrout (Rodin, Killing Eve, Genius Picasso) in Mauritius to shoot one of the first major new motion pictures to go into production during the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Set in Mauritius in 1925, a time of social tension, the island paradise forms the stunning backdrop for a true coming-of-age love story. Orphaned, 17-year-old Lucy Gladwell has been sent from England to live under the guardianship of her uncle George Huyton. Initially seduced by the sumptuous beauty of her surroundings and the charm of her new family, Lucy sees George as a benign, humorous, and loving man who has her best interests at heart. But beneath this veneer of civilisation, lies a dark, violent force, that wants to entrap, rule, and use her. When Lucy meets Krishna, a passionate young man working as a labourer on a nearby plantation with dreams of one day owning his own land, they both fall deeply and dangerously in love. She finds herself at odds with her uncle, the ways of his world and his plans of an arranged marriage for her. No matter how fleeting Lucy and Krishna’s time together may be, the passion and all-consuming nature of true love is something neither can deny.

This story is incredibly important to me and to be able to bring it to life with our wonderful cast, crew and Director on the Island of my birth is a true honour and privilege”
