Edgar Wright will direct The Chain

It looks like Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Baby Driver) has picked his next project as Deadline is reporting he will be directing an adaptation of The Chain for Universal.

Jane Goldman (Kingsman: The Golden Circle, X-Men: First Class) is writing the script based on the 2019 book by Adrian McKinty.

I had not heard of the book until now, but it does have a very intriguing, and frightening, set-up. Here is the all caps synopsis!

YOUR PHONE RINGS.

A STRANGER HAS KIDNAPPED YOUR CHILD.

TO FREE THEM YOU MUST ABDUCT SOMEONE ELSE’S CHILD.

YOUR CHILD WILL BE RELEASED WHEN YOUR VICTIM’S PARENTS KIDNAP ANOTHER CHILD.

IF ANY OF THESE THINGS DON’T HAPPEN:
YOUR CHILD WILL BE KILLED.

VICTIM. SURVIVOR. ABDUCTOR. CRIMINAL.
YOU WILL BECOME EACH ONE.

YOU ARE NOW PART OF THE CHAIN.

Early days on this one, but I can see Wright bringing us an excellent thriller based on this.

Have you read the novel? Will it make a good action thriller?
