Ewan McGregor is voicing Jiminy Cricket in Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio

Guillermo del Toro is co-directing a stop-motion adaptation of Pinocchio with Mark Gustafson (Fantastic Mr Fox). It has been in development for a couple of years, but we now know that Ewan McGregor is voicing Jiminy Cricket.

McGregor announced the fact during an interview with ACE Universe.

I’m playing Jiminy Cricket in Guillermo del Toro’s version of Pinocchio. That I had started working on before I left for New York, so some of that is recorded. And of course, it’s stop-motion animated so it’s going to take them a great long time to make that film. But my first part, which is recording his dialogue, is sort of done. There may or may not be a song that has to be recorded. I’m not sure I’m at liberty to discuss that.

So it looks like it may also be a musical.

David Bradley is voicing Geppetto and Ron Perlman voices Mangiafuoco. It also features the voices of Tilda Swinton and Christoph Waltz.

That’s all we really know about the film. I cannot wait to see some images from it as, with del Toro being involved, I am sure there will be some creepy loveliness to the character and set designs.

Pinocchio is due out on Netflix in 2021.
