Friends Don’t Lie! Secret Cinema Presents Stranger Things sells out the entirety of its run

It’s official, audiences have fallen in love with Secret Cinema Presents Stranger Things. For just over four months, the pioneers of immersive storytelling have produced a spectacular event that has drawn praise from fans and critics alike, selling out its entire run in the process.

During an epic 16 week run, 110,000 people descended on a top secret London location that was transformed into Hawkins, Indiana, as Secret Cinema re-imagined the iconic and beloved world of one of Netflix’s most popular TV shows.

This official collaboration with Netflix saw the audience invited to celebrate an ‘Independence Day Reunion Party’ organised by the town’s Mayor, Larry Kline. Arriving under the neon splendour of the Starcourt Mall facade, these “residents” of Hawkins were transported into the bouffant-haired, bright lights of suburban America in 1985.

Pop Kids, Hip Hoppers, New Romantics, Rockers and Punks created a kaleidoscope of colour, paying homage to the fashion and culture of one of the most iconic and visual periods in history. Not only did they look the part, but they also threw themselves into the experience, with 180 participating in the ‘dinner party’ scene each night and 16,560 residents attacked by the Mind Flayer during the shows run. 32,000 ice creams were served in Scoops Ahoy and, despite residents best efforts, the Dragon’s Lair arcade machine in the Palace Arcade remains uncompleted.

Joyfully created, Secret Cinema Presents Stranger Things transformed an abandoned warehouse in London into a spectacular multi-layered experience that featured beloved locations from across three series’ of the ground-breaking TV show. Scoops Ahoy, Palace Arcade, the Hideaway and Hopper’s Cabin were recreated with immaculate attention to detail. An ensemble of perfectly cast actors weaved throughout the experience, interacting with the audience as they lived out their very own Stranger Things adventure

Three hours of immersive theatre built to a spectacular finale that delivered a 360 degree multi-sensory experience, featuring incredible stunts, production and a sonic soundscape that sent shivers down the spine of all those that shared the never ending story.

Receiving rapturous applause from critics and fans alike, Secret Cinema Presents Stranger Things was one of the capital’s must-see events. The audiences appetite to experience Secret Cinema Presents Stranger Things was insatiable, with extra dates added throughout the run to meet the phenomenal consumer demand.

Matthew Bennett, Creative Director of Secret Cinema Presents Stranger Things said: “Netflix allowed our imaginations to run completely free. Being handed such an iconic canvas to play with enabled us to celebrate the Duffer Brothers richly created world and bring an audience closer to beloved characters and storylines of Stranger Things than ever before in our most theatrical experience to date.”

Secret Cinema partnered with Child Line for this production, raising £32,000. Through initiatives and audience donations, Secret Cinema will support children under the age of 19 who have nowhere else to turn to. This initiative is part of an ongoing commitment to support the vital work of charities, which has seen Secret Cinema raise over £130,000 since 2015.

Secret Cinema will return in the summer with a spectacular outdoor performance of Dirty Dancing. Secret Cinema Presents Dirty Dancing opens on Wednesday 22nd July and runs until Sunday 9th August. Tickets are priced from £49 + booking fees and can be purchased at https://www.secretcinema.org/.
