Universal and Blumhouse are working on a new adaptation of The Thing
John Carpenter’s The Thing is, in my opinion, one of the greatest movies of all time. It was the second adaption of the 1938 novella Who Goes There?, penned by John W. Campbell Jr. The first was of course 1951’s The Thing from Another World.
Turns out the novella was a shortened version of a novel by Campbell Jr called Frozen Hell.
In 2018 author John Betancourt found a full copy of Frozen Hell and started a Kickstarter to get it published.
It seems that Frozen Hell will also be getting a film adaptation. According to the Kickstarter site, it has been fully financed and will be from Universal and Blumhouse, according to Bloody Disgusting. They also have sources who confirmed the story.
Executive Producer Alan Donnes said the following:
Now, for the first time ever, Campbell’s full vision will be realized on the big screen. The new film will include the very best of RKO’s THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD, John Carpenter’s classic THE THING and both books, Frozen Hell and Who Goes There?
The Thing is my favourite movie of all time. However, as this new film will be an adaptation on a full novel and not John Carpenter’s film I am more than happy to see what they do with it.
It is still early days, but who would you like to see direct a film adaptation of Frozen Hell?
