Rutger Hauer has passed away

Some very sad news. Rutger Hauer died on July 19 at his home in the Netherlands after a short illness. He was 75.

Hauer’s agent, Steve Kenis, confirmed the news and said that Hauer’s funeral was held Wednesday.

His role as Roy Batty in Blade Runner May well be the most popular one. In a sad coincidence, Batty also died in the year 2019.

“I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.”

Hauer’s career began in 1969 with the title role in the Dutch television series Floris.

He also starred in many great films – Flesh+Blood, Blind Fury, Blade Runner, The Hitcher, Escape from Sobibor (for which he won a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor), Nighthawks, Wedlock, Sin City, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Ladyhawke, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Osterman Weekend, The Blood of Heroes (aka Salute to the Jugger), Batman Begins, Hobo with a Shotgun, and The Rite.

I also liked him in the Guinness adverts from many moons ago.

He was a legend and he will be missed.
