Duncan Jones gives an update on the Rogue Trooper movie
Duncan Jones (Moon, Warcraft, Source Code, Mute) is working on a film adaptation for 2000AD’s excellent Rogue Trooper.
The comic story follows the adventures of Rogue, a “Genetic Infantryman”, a genetically created, blue-skinned, manufactured super soldier and his three comrades’ search for the Traitor General. His comrades are in the form of biochips – onto which a G.I.’s entire personality is downloaded at the time of death for later retrieval – and are named Gunnar (mounted on Rogue’s rifle), Bagman (on his backpack) and Helm (on his helmet). He is genetically engineered to be immune to almost all known toxins, can submerge in strong acid unaffected, and is able to withstand a vacuum in his bare skin.
Not much is known about the adaptation, but Jones was speaking to EW about the 10th Anniversary of Moon (time flies!) and he had an update on Rogue Trooper for us.
I think we’ve come up with a really smart way to approach it. Hopefully, [we’ve] learnt the lessons from previous 2000AD films, where they were either not loyal to what the original comic was, or, in Dredd’s case, just done at slightly too big a budget to actually be successful, even though the film was critically well-received. I think we’ve really kind of nailed this one. So, it looks good. It looks good that we’ll get to make it and I think people are going to really like it.
I do love the character and I cannot wait to see the film. I do wonder who will be playing Rogue.
