Sam Raimi talks about ideas for a new Evil Dead movie

Ash vs Evil Dead finished its run and I was sad to see it go, but it was always fun to watch Ash (Bruce Campbell) go up against the Deadites. Once the TV show finished, Campbell said he was now retired from the role.

There had been rumblings about various video games and comics based on the Evil Dead, but nothing much regarding the future of it on the big screen.

However, Sam Raimi, who directed the original films and produced the TV show, got talking to Bloody Disgusting about Evil Dead. It sounds like there are a few ideas in place. Some for if Bruce Campbell decided to return to the role and some for Fede Álvarez to return and continue the story from his 2013 remake.

I would be thrilled if Bruce Campbell changed his mind about retirement, would come back for the original Evil Dead line, but if not, I’m very happy to work with, if Fede [Álvarez] would come back and make the sequel… but he’s such a big shot now. He’s so successful, an artist in demand, that I don’t think he’d want to do that.

But there’s also a third possibility we’re talking about.

So I think you may see some action on the Evil Dead movie in the next six months.

Raimi did not elaborate on what the third possibility could be. He did say that the events in the Álvarez film did take place in the original universe.

I think that’s a part of the Evil Dead universe but not part of the Bruce Campbell storyline.

I am always up for more Evil Dead so I look forward to whatever they have in store for us.
