Quentin Tarantino would love to make a really, really scary horror film

Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight is due out in the UK on 8th January (read our review and interview).

It is Tarantino’s eighth film and he has always said he plans to retire after his tenth film. That means we’ve got two left and, while chatting to NME, he spoke about the types of films he is thinking of doing.

It usually takes me about three years to make a movie anyway, so you’re talking about almost a decade left. I don’t want to be the guy that’s doing this forever. There should be an end. There is not a genre left where I have the same burning desire that I had to do a WWII movie (Inglourious Basterds) or a martial-arts movie (Kill Bill). I think maybe the one genre left might be a 1930s gangster movie, that kind of John Dillinger thing. I’m also interested in doing something contemporary, where I can have a character who gets in a car, turns on the radio so I can have a cool driving montage. And if I had all the time in the world, I would love to make a really, really scary horror film, like The Exorcist.

I’d definitely be up for a Tarantino horror movie. As for the other two, I think I would have the contemporary film as opposed to the 1930s gangster film. Yet the way Tarantino mixes up genres, who knows what he would do with any of them.

Add in the fact he has spoken in the past of doing a Kill Bill 3 and The Vega Brothers movie then he is going to have to sit back and have a good think about what to do.
