Baltimore Comic-Con 2018

Me and Tom King

I recently attended the Baltimore Comic-Con in Baltimore, Maryland. It was held on September 28-30 at the Inner Harbor’s Baltimore Convention Center. It was my first time at the convention and I have to say, I was blown away by it.

After ten years of attending New York ComicCon, it was absolutely wonderful to attend a convention again where the sole focus is comic books. Sure, BCC has a few celebrity guests (this year’s included Shazam’s Zachary Levi and Twin Peaks’ Sherilyn Fenn), but by and large, this is a convention for comic book fans, the way conventions were when I first started going to them.

One of the highlights was attending a private fan session with Batman superstars Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo. We got a Q& A session that was extremely entertaining, a limited-edition signed print, and a handful of autographs, as well as a photo with the two creators. It was well worth the reasonable add-on cost.

Another highlight for me personally was meeting Don Rosa, the legendary Uncle Scrooge writer and artist. Long of one of my favorite creators, it was my first time meeting Mr. Rosa. He took the time to talk with each fan at length, and I got a few sketches from him for my collection as well.

I did have to dip over to the celebrity side for a few minutes and meet Sherilyn Fenn, as I’ve been in love with her since my teenage years. I also stalked Terry Moore, creator of Stranger in Paradise, and met a great deal of other comics luminaries such as Walter Simonson, Michael Golden, Marguerite Bennett, Simon Bisley, Ron Marz, Joseph Michael Linsner, and too many others to name.

Simply put, the Baltimore Comic-Con is the single best convention I’ve ever been to as a comic book fan. I highly recommend that you visit it if you get the chance. Next year’s Con will once again be at on the Inner Harbor’s Baltimore Convention Center on October 18-20.
