Sonic the Hedgehog is getting a redesign as fans were not happy with the new look
A few days back the first trailer for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie dropped. We had already seen the redesign for the character on various posters and images. It looked most odd from that, but the trailer really brought it home as to how un-Sonic like he looked.
Fans were not happy and, apart from Jim Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik, comments were not very positive about the film.
It seems that there has been talk behind the scenes as Jeff Fowler, a visual effects veteran made his feature directorial debut with Sonic the Hedgehog, shared the following:
Thank you for the support. And the criticism. The message is loud and clear… you aren't happy with the design & you want changes. It's going to happen. Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be… #sonicmovie #gottafixfast 🔧✌️

The film is due out this autumn so that means a hell of a lot of work for the poor VFX people. While I think it is the right thing to do in this instance, there is the whole question as to whether filmmakers should let fans decide on what a film is like, before it is released.
Edward Pun did do a redesign and it does look a lot better going closer with the original video game look.

Should filmmakers listen to the fans before a film is released or should they just stick with their own artistic decisions?
