Northern Exposure is coming back with Rob Morrow set to star
CBS is developing a reboot of its 1990s dramedy Northern Exposure. Rob Morrow is set to return as Dr. Joel Fleischman, while creators Joshua Brand and John Falsey attached.
Northern Exposure initially followed New York City native Dr. Joel Fleischman, with storylines revolving around his fish-out-of-water difficulties adjusting to Alaska, and his hot-and-cold romantic involvement with Maggie O’Connell (Janine Turner). A recently graduated physician, Fleischman is set to practice in Anchorage for several years to repay the state of Alaska for underwriting his medical education. As the show progressed it focussed on many of the other characters and delved into the various relationships.
The show originally ran from 1990 to 1995, with a total of 110 episodes. It received a total of 57 award nominations during its five-year run and won 27, including the 1992 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series, two additional Primetime Emmy Awards, four Creative Arts Emmy Awards, and two Golden Globes.
The new series will follow Morrow’s Dr. Joel Fleischman returning to Cicely, Alaska, for the funeral of an old friend and reuniting with some of his former neighbours and meeting a new set of quirky characters.
There is no word on which other characters will be returning, but I would be more than happy to return to the town of Cicely for a while.
