The Swamp Thing TV show will use a practical suit, be R-rated and is inspired by Alan Moore’s run on the comic
When CDC researcher Abby Arcane returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland — only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous — and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all.
Swamp Thing was created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson in 1971. Then Alan Moore pumped fresh life into the character back in the 80s. Swamp Thing has starred in a 1982 live-action movie by Wes Craven, along with a previous live-action series from 1990-1993.
The show is due in 2019. Mark Verheiden and Gary Dauberman will serve as writers and executive producers. James Wan and Michael Clear will also executive produce via Wan’s Atomic Monster banner. Rob Hackett of Atomic Monster will serve as co-producer. Atomic Monster will produce in association with Warner Bros. Television.
Crystal Reed (Gotham, Teen Wolf) has been cast as Abby Arcane while Maria Sten will play Liz Tremayne. While the character of Alec Holland is waiting to be cast, it seems that Swamp Thing will be played by Derek Mears (Friday the 13th, Predators, Twin Peaks: The Return) in a practical suit.
Dauberman was chatting to /Film about The Nun and the conversation turned to Swamp Thing. He said that, because it will be on the DC Universe streaming service they have more freedom so it will be R-rated.
There is a physical costume.
It’s the origin story of the Swamp Thing and it’s Alec Holland wrestling with who he’s become. A lot of it’s told through the point of view of Abby Arcane.
He also spoke about the possibility of Swamp Thing crossing over with Titans or any of the other DC Universe shows.
I really hope this ends up being a good show as I do love Swamp Thing.
