Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2, Atlanta) is in talks to join Joaquin Phoenix in Joker, the stand-alone origin project from Warner Bros. and The Hangover helmer Todd Phillips. Joker is due to begin shooting in September in New York. The studio has set an Oct. 4, 2019, release date – THR

According to The Hashtag Show, Joaquin Phoenix’s character will be named Arthur Fleck before a series of events that leads to his transformation into The Joker. They also have these plot details – “Phillips’ film will follow Fleck as he returns to a city on the brink. We believe that Fleck will return home to live with his aging (perhaps dying?) mother, Penny, in her apartment. It’s here that he’ll likely meet Sophie Dumond, the single-mother set to be played by Zazie Beetz, and begin his descent into madness described as the “exploration of a man disregarded by society [that] is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.”

Stargirl

Geoff Johns has announced another new live-action series coming to the DC Universe streaming service with Stargirl. Johns will write and produce the series through his Mad Ghost Productions banner alongside Greg Berlanti and Berlanti Productions. The character appeared briefly in Legends of Tomorrow.

Tick, Tick…Boom!

Lin-Manuel Miranda will make his directorial debut with a film adaptation of Tick, Tick…Boom! the autobiographical musical of the late “Rent” playwright Jonathan Larson. Taking place in 1990, “Tick, Tick…Boom!” follows Jon, a waiter and aspiring composer who hopes that his next theatrical project, “Superbia,” will bring him his Broadway dreams. But as his roommate prepares to move out and take a high-paying advertising job and his girlfriend pressures him to give up on his play, Jon begins to wonder if his dreams are worth it – The Wrap

American Horror Story: Season 8

Season 8 will be called American Horror Story: Apocalypse. Creator Ryan Murphy previously said that Season 8 would be a “crossover” with Murder House (Season 1) and Coven (Season 3). “It’s a season unlike anything we’ve done because there’s a big hook to it. There’s a huge thing that happens in episode 5.”

6 Underground

Michael Bay’s 6 Underground has added Dave Franco, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Adria Arjona, and Corey Hawkins to the cast. They Ryan Reynolds in the big-budget action pic. The film will start shooting later this month and will be released worldwide in 2019 – Variety
