Review: Wonder – “Warm, funny, heartfelt, endearing, charming”
Before I get into any details about the film, let me just say that on my film podcast, After the Ending, I selected Wonder as my Number 1 film of 2017. It’s THAT good.
Now, with that out of the way, here’s my advice: just start bawling openly as soon as the trailers start. Trust me, it will make watching Wonder a lot easier. I say that with as much love as possible, because you WILL cry while watching this film, especially if you’re a parent. But it’s crying in the best possible way. Not just from sadness, but from happiness and hope and empathy and compassion, too.
Based on the New York Times bestseller by R.J. Palacio, the Academy Award® and BAFTA nominated WONDER tells the inspiring and heart-warming story of August “Auggie” Pullman. Born with facial differences that, up until now, have prevented him from going to a mainstream school, Auggie becomes the most unlikely of heroes when he enters the fifth grade at his local school. As his family, new classmates, and the larger community all struggle to find their compassion and acceptance, Auggie’s extraordinary journey will unite them all and prove you can’t blend in when you were born to stand out.
Wonder is a such a warm, funny, heartfelt, endearing, charming movie, that you want to cry just because you’re enjoying it so much. I don’t even need to say anymore, just go watch this movie and watch it now. You’ll thank me for it.
