Michael Fassbender will star in a feature-length sequel to Kung Fury!
Michael Fassbender is set to star in and produce David Sandberg’s action-comedy Kung Fury, a feature-length sequel to the short film of the same name. It is not clear what role Fassbender will be playing. Sandberg will also star and produce under his Laser Unicorns banner.
It seems the Cloverfield Paradox really did make anything possible!
David Hasselhoff, who appeared in the original short film, will also return for the sequel. Production on the feature will begin this summer.
It’s 1985, the best year ever. Miami is kept safe under the watchful eye of Kung Fury, the greatest damn cop of all time. Kung Fury’s Thundercops are the ultimate police force assembled from across history to defeat the villainous Kung Fuhrer, Adolf Hitler. After the tragic death of a Thundercop causes the group to disband, a mysterious villain emerges from the shadows to aid in the Fuhrer’s quest to attain the ultimate weapon. Kung Fury must travel through space and time itself to save his friends, defend the prestigious Miami Kung Fu Academy, and defeat evil once and for all.
I thoroughly enjoyed the original short and, while I would love to see more, I am not sure whether a feature-length film will be able to keep the magical awesomeness alive for the full run time. I hope I am proven wrong. I wonder if they would consider a crossover with Black Dynamite!
David Katzenberg, Seth Grahame-Smith and Aaron Schmidt will produce under their KatzSmith Productions banner along with Philip Westgren of B-Reel Films and Conor McCaughan. Pelle Strandberg will executive produce on behalf of Laser Unicorns. BLOOM will handle international sales and introduce the film to buyers at the Berlin Film Festival. Endeavor Content and CAA will handle North American sales.
