"No matter where you go, there you are."

Shane Black and Fred Dekker are working on a reboot of The Avengers….No, not that one!

One of the reasons why the Marvel’s The Avengers movie was called Avengers Assemble in the UK was because of The Avengers – John Steed (the late Patrick Macnee), a secret agent working for a secret branch of British intelligence, who worked with a number of different people including Cathy Gale (Honor Blackman), Emma Peel (Diana Rigg), Purdy (Joanna Lumley), Mike Gambit (Gareth Hunt), and Tara King (Linda Thorson).

It was always lots of fun and a bit weird.

There was a big screen adaptation back in 1998 (20 years ago! Where has the time gone?), which starred Ralph Fiennes as Steed and Uma Thurman as Emma Peel. The film wasn’t that good (due to various cuts and bad decisions), but did have a few moments worth watching.

However, it seems that Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Nice Guys) and Fred Dekker (Night of the Creeps), who worked together on The Monster Squad and The Predator movie, are working on a new TV version.

Dekker had this to say about the project:

It’s The Avengers, with John Steed and Emma Peel. We’re setting it in Britain in the 60’s, and our approach is The Ipcress File meets Doctor Who. At this moment, it’s my favourite thing we’re working on.

I am glad that it is going to be set in the 60s and I have faith in Black and Dekker (ha!) bringing us something worth watching.

Of course, the big question is who will play John Steed and Emma Peel?
