Edward James Olmos talks about The Predator – “It’s really funny, and yet deadly”
Shane Black (Predator) wrote and directed The Predator. The new film stars Sterling K. Brown(“American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson”), Trevante Rhodes (“Moonlight”), Boyd Holbrook (“Logan”), Jacob Tremblay (“Room”) – in the front with Black , Olivia Munn (“X-Men: Apocalypse”), Keegan-Michael Key (“Key and Peele”), Thomas Jane (The Expanse), Alfie Allen (Game of Thrones) and Edward James Olmos (Blade Runner).
Thomas Jane had spoken about the film and now Edward James Olmos has talked about it.
Keegan (Michael Key) and Thomas Jane, they’re paired off in groups of three groups. Six guys. The way they work, they were all post-traumatic stress disorder guys who were inside of an insane asylum. A mental hospital. Then they put the lead character in there to kind of make them disappear, because they want them kind of out of the picture. And so he gets involved and then boom, the world goes crazy and these kids are released. But out of a freaky incident with some of the Predators. It’s crazy. It’s so crazy. I’m excited for it, and I don’t know what’s gonna happen. I got a good feeling about it. I mean if it’s really funny, and yet deadly like Predator is.
I’m not sure what to think about this. Deadpool and other films have shown that humour and violence can work well together and the original Predator movie did have some humour. It sounds like there will be a lot more comedy in this one.
It shouldn’t be all that surprising as Shane Black’s Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and The Good Guys did also have lots of violence coupled with lots of humour so he does know how to make that work. However, it’s not what I was expecting in a Predator film.
I do like Shane Black’s other films so I am still cautiously optimistic, but I look forward to seeing some footage from the film to get a better handle on it.
What are your thoughts on the news?
We talked about the original film in an episode of After the Ending.
