“I’m too full for this sh*t” – Lethal Weapon: The Complete First Season and beer and burgers

Lethal Weapon: The Complete First Season is available on Blu-Ray right now, and to celebrate the release of America’s greatest bromance we recently attended an exclusive press dinner and screening for the UK’s best mates at Hawaiian burger joint: Kua’Aina in central London.

Damon Wayans (My Wife and Kids, In Living Color) as Roger Murtaugh and Clayne Crawford (A Walk to Remember, Rectify) as Riggs are back on the streets of L.A., in Warner Bros. Television’s adaptation of LETHAL WEAPON.

The series introduces these two polar opposites: Riggs a volatile former Navy SEAL-turned-detective out of El Paso, Texas and Murtaugh, a seasoned, by-the-book detective cautiously returning to the LAPD despite his wife’s (Keesha Sharp) objections following a heart attack which nearly killed him.

Meanwhile Riggs has his own demons after the tragic deaths of his wife and unborn son. Sanctioned to mandatory sessions with the police department’s psychologist, (Jordana Brewster) things become more complicated for Riggs, when the two develop feelings for each other.

Very ready to party via the mouth to mark the occasion of Lethal Weapon: The Complete First Season’s release on Blu-ray and DVD on Monday 25th September, I grabbed the Riggs to my Murtaugh – Christa from DIY Magazine – to enjoy America’s most loved food and drinks, plus re-watch the most bromantic series available on the small screen!

Getting stuck straight into the Budweiser, I scanned the downstairs “surf lodge” of Ku’Aina’s Goodge Street branch and was getting pretty excited. The walls were coated in grass skirts and surfboards, and the clientele all looked very happy. Munching on some well nice chilli cheese fries, we ordered a pair of half pound cheese and bacon burgers and settled in to watch the first episode of Lethal Weapon.

Directed with plenty of energy and excitement by McG (Charlie’s Angels) the first ep sets up the new timeline and origins of our heroes’ new incarnations. Riggs’ backstory is tweaked but just as tragic; while Wayans’ version of Murtaugh has an affliction that is a very cool reverse on Crank: fitted with a pulse monitor, Murtaugh has to try and keep his pulse low enough not to have another heart attack no matter what dangerous and wacky shenanigans Crawford’s Riggs gets him into.

Combining the laughs and budding camaraderie with delicious lava-cooked Hawaiian burgers full of melty cheese and crispy bacon was a masterstroke, and the whole surf lodge was soon swept away in a wave of burgeoning buddy-cop bromance and perfectly grilled meat.

After winning ourselves a box set in a quiz afterwards to make sure we had been paying attention, Live for Films is very much looking forward to seeing how the rest of the series turns out – and you can too, by picking yourselves up a copy now.
