Karl Urban could be Judge Dredd for the Mega City One TV show

Back in May there came word that a Judge Dredd TV show was being developed. IM Global and independent U.K. games developer and publisher Rebellion have struck a deal to make Judge Dredd: Mega City One, a high-end TV series based on the globally-famous character from the pages of legendary British comic book 2000 AD, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.

Set in a future where east coast America has become a crowded and crime-ridden megalopolis, the show will be an ensemble drama about a team of Judges – futuristic cops invested with the power to be judge, jury, and executioner – as they deal with the challenges the future-shocked 22nd Century throws at them.

There was no word on the cast, but obviously, many of us would like to see Karl Urban back on the streets of Mega City One as he was excellent in Dredd. It seemed doubtful, but the producers said they were definitely considering it, but a lot depended on schedules and things.

While talking at this year’s Star Trek Las Vegas, the Judge Dredd TV show was brought up and it seems Urban is also up for putting on the helmet again:

I am in discussions with them about that. I told them that if they write the material and give Dredd something to do and give him a function, I will be there. I would love to.

It is all still very up in the air and who knows what will actually happen, but at the very least all those involved do want it to happen. I loved the 2012 film and while it is doubtful that the TV show will follow on directly from it I would love to see Karl Urban play Dredd again.

How about you?
