The Random: Voltron, Van Helsing, Doctor Doom, the future of Alien and is Ben Affleck no longer Batman?

The Random is bits and pieces of movie and TV news.

– Ben Affleck will be Batman in the Justice League movie, but Warner Bros. and DC may be looking to replace him for The Batman movie. The studio is working on plans to usher out Affleck’s Batman gracefully, according to THR, addressing the change in some shape or form in one of the upcoming DC films. We will have to wait and see if it definitely happens, but I always thought they had painted themselves into a corner by having this Batman an older, grizzled version. They should have had him just starting out like Superman in Man of Steel.

– At the top, you can see our first look at the third Young Justice series, titled Young Justice: Outsider. The line-up for the team includes Static, Kid Flash, Robin, Wonder Girl, Spoiler, Blue Beetle, Thirteen, Arrowette, Arsenal and Beast Boy.

– Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail is writing and is attached to direct Universal’s Bermuda Triangle film – THR

– Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant dropped 71 percent in its second weekend, and has earned $232 million worldwide. Sources say Fox will have to reassess two intended sequels Scott has pitched while he is off helming Getty kidnapping movie All the Money in the World and then drug lord drama The Cartel – THR

– Noah Hawley (Legion) is developing a Doctor Doom movie. I just wish Fox would let the Fantastic Four go back to Marvel Studios. However, Legion star Dan Stevens is apparently involved. Will he be Doom? If he is I could suddenly be very interested.

– Marvel’s Inhumans gets a new trailer.

– American Horror Story Season 7 is called Cult. Lena Dunham (Girls) recently joined the cast which also includes Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Billie Lourd, and Billy Eichner.

– Saïd Taghmaoui (Wonder Woman) has joined the cast of Legion Season 2 in the role of the Shadow King. That character had a few different faces in the first season. I cannot see where they go next.

– The Mummy has grossed $389.6 million worldwide to date so Universal is moving forward with its monster-filled Dark Universe, but slowly, to allow for more script development. The stories will be tied together by Russell Crowe’s Dr. Jekyll. The studio is betting on names, prepping an offer to Angelina Jolie for Bride of Frankenstein (slated for release on Feb. 14, 2019) and polishing the script for Van Helsing, aimed for Channing Tatum.
