Cool Short: Eddie
Deep underground, a second-rate scientist struggles to cope with extreme boredom, a desperate voiceless companion and a mystery he’d really rather not have to solve…
Eddie is described as a retro-sci-fi parable of loneliness and inevitability which blends the tense mystery of films like Duncan Jones’ Moon and the gruesome horror of George A Romero’s Day of the Dead. Eddie’s atmosphere is less ‘guns blazing’ and more ‘put the kettle on and pretend nothing is happening’.
Eddie is the debut fiction short from London-based director, John Lynch. It was co-written with Jon Williams-Nobbs, creator of the ‘Overhead Universe’ which documents the tragi-comic misadventures befalling employees of a ubiquitous and shady mega-corporation. Together they wrote Eddie as a proof of concept for a feature film also set in the Overhead Universe. The feature, described by the team as a cross between Withnail and I and John Carpenter’s The Thing, is currently in development.
They hope to use the Eddie short to help secure finance to greenlight the bigger more expansive feature film story. The team is also looking to release a fiction podcast set within the universe, soon.
