The Uncharted movie lives once more and has found a director
It appears that the Uncharted film may finally be getting made. Plans for an adaptation of the video game have been around for years, but have always fallen flat.
David O. Russell was set to direct the film back in 2010. He wanted Mark Wahlberg as Nathan Drake and Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci were also rumoured to be in the film. It all ended up falling apart and it didn’t help that Russell didn’t seem to know what Uncharted was all about.
Nathan Fillion was the fan favourite to play the title character, Nathan Drake, but that boat has sailed. Then Joe Carnahan came onboard and wrote the most recent script and was going to direct until leaving to make Bad Boys for Life with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.
The latest rumour for who should play Nathan Drake was Brett Dalton (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.). I could see that, but don’t think it would be quite right.
Now it seems that Sony Pictures are fast tracking the project and they have got Shawn Levy (Night At The Museum, Real Steel, Date Night, Stranger Things) to direct. Is he the right choice to direct? Maybe, maybe not, but he would get the film made if it does go ahead. However, with the convoluted history of the adaptation, I am not holding my breath.
Who would you like to see play Nathan Drake? Do you want an Uncharted film?
Uncharted is an Arad/Atlas Entertainment Production, with Charles Roven, Avi Arad, Alex Gartner and Ari Arad producing.
