Hirokazu Kore-eda’s Monster gets a UK release date

Picturehouse Entertainment has announced that the critically acclaimed, award-winning Monster will be released in UK and Irish cinemas on the 15th March 2024.

When her young son Minato starts to behave strangely, his mother feels that there is something wrong. Discovering that a teacher is responsible, she storms into the school demanding to know what’s going on. But as the story unfolds through the eyes of mother, teacher and child, the truth gradually emerges.

MONSTER is directed by celebrated Japanese filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda (After The Storm, Shoplifters, Broker), and features incredible performances from Sakura Ando (Shoplifters, Godzilla: Minus One), and Sōya Kurokawa and Hinata Hiiragi in their debut film roles. The film also boasts a moving score by the late, legendary Oscar-winning composer Ryuichi Sakamoto.

Awarded the Queer Palm and The Best Screenplay Award at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, it has gone on to play numerous other festivals such as the San Sebastián International Film Festival and London Film Festival, and was recently nominated for Best International Independent Film at the 2023 BIFAs.
