The Chosen One – The Netflix adaptation of Mark Millar’s American Jesus gets a teaser

American Jesus is the latest Millerworld comic book, after Jupiter’s Legacy and Super Crooks, to get a Netflix adaptation. First released in 2004 under the name of Chosen, the comic was written by Mark Millar with art by Peter Gross.

The new show is called The Chosen One (El Elegido). Everardo Gout and Leopoldo Gout are co-showrunners, with the former also directing.

Imagine for a moment… You’re 12 years old and one day you discover that you possess the same powers as Jesus Christ. Meet Jodie, a kid who finds himself in awe as he starts to develop incredible and divine abilities. The events and revelations that follow lead the young prodigy and his crew of friends to embark on a supernatural coming of age journey through the Baja region that could change their reality and everything the world believes. Will he rise to answer the divine call?

The series stars Tenoch Huerta (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Narcos: Mexico), Dianna Agron (Glee, The Family) with more cast to be announced.

The Chosen One hits Netflix on 16th August 2023.
