Fede Álvarez’s Alien: Romulus begins filming next year

There is an Alien TV show in development along with a new film to be directed by Fede Álvarez (Don’t Breathe). Things had been quiet on the latter project, but the Film & Television Industry Alliance has the news that film will be called Alien: Romulus with filming scheduled to begin in Budapest, Hungary on 6th February.

Cailee Spaeny (Pacific Rim: Uprising) will star in the film. Alvarez wrote the screenplay with Rodo Sayagues. There are no plot details at the moment, but it is thought that it is not directly connected to the other films in the series. The film from Momentum and 20th Century Studios, with Ridley Scott producing through his Scott Free banner, will release through the Hulu streaming service as Prey did this year.

20th Century Studios division president Steve Asbell told The Hollywood Reporter that they picked up the project “purely off the strength of Fede’s pitch. It was just a really good story with a bunch of characters you haven’t seen before. It’s not a film that has to be all things to all people with those gargantuan budgets. They get to be authentically what they are. And this is closer to its genre roots.”

That sounds like it may be more about the Xenomorph as opposed to the AI focus in Prometheus and Covenant.

What would you like to see in Alien: Romulus?
