Marcel The Shell With Shoes On – Watch the trailer for the new A24 film that has vibes of Aardman’s Creature Comforts

Aardman’s Creature Comforts was an animated short that had animated animals in a zoo talking to the viewer. However, their voices were from interviews with ordinary people. I’ve included the original short below.

Marcel The Shell With Shoes On is directed by Dean Fleischer-Camp. It started off as a short film, but A24 picked it up and we now have this new film. It features animated shells that talk to the viewer and, while it is scripted, it does give me that Creature Comforts vibe. The new trailer has been released and it does look charming.

Marcel is an adorable one-inch-tall shell who ekes out a colorful existence with his grandmother Connie and their pet lint, Alan. Once part of a sprawling community of shells, they now live alone as survivors of a mysterious tragedy. But when a documentary filmmaker discovers them amongst the clutter of his Airbnb, the short film he posts online brings Marcel millions of passionate fans, as well as unprecedented dangers and a new hope at finding his long-lost family. A beloved character gets his big-screen debut in this hilarious and heartwarming story about finding connection in the smallest corners.

The film features Jenny Slate, Isabella Rossellini, Rosa Salazar, Thomas Mann, and Lesley Stahl.

Marcel The Shell With Shoes On hits cinemas on 24th June 2022.
