Kevin Smith’s Dogma is returning to cinemas this June to celebrate its 25th Anniversary
Kevin Smith has announced that his 1999 film Dogma will return to cinemas this summer to coincide with the movie’s 25th anniversary.
“Bless me, Father – for I have cinema!” Smith wrote in an Instagram post on Tuesday. “I’m ecclesiastically ecstatic to announce that Dogma is getting a religious re-release on June 5th in theaters all across the U.S. and Canada!”
Dogma follows two fallen angels, Bartleby (Ben Affleck) and Loki (Matt Damon), who discover a loophole in Catholic doctrine that could allow them to return to Heaven, threatening the very fabric of existence. To stop them, a group of unlikely heroes – including a faith-struggling woman (Linda Fiorentino), the erased 13th Apostle (Chris Rock), and Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Kevin Smith) – must prevent the apocalypse.
The film also stars George Carlin, Janeane Garofalo, Salma Hayek, Jason Lee, Alanis Morrisette, Brian O’Halloran, and Alan Rickman.
Smith is partnering with Iconic Events for an American screening of a 4K restoration of his long-unavailable religious satire on 5th June, as part of its 25th anniversary. Dogma: Resurrected, A 25th Anniversary Celebration will serve as the culmination of a live tour that will see Smith stopping in various cities, screening the film and hosting live Q&As. The tour begins at The Grove in Los Angeles on Easter Sunday, April 20 aka 4/20!
Other stops on the tour include San Diego, Phoenix, Seattle, Minneapolos, Chicago, Kansas City, Dallas, Boston, New York City and Philadelphia, before ending at Smith’s Smodcastle Cinemas in Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey.
