The Curse of Modigliani – Watch the trailer for the new film from Diana Ringo
The official trailer for The Curse of Modigliani, the latest feature film from Finnish director and composer Diana Ringo, has been released, offering a haunting glimpse into a tale of obsession, art, and self-destruction. Starring Edward Pishiyski in the lead role, with Diana Ringo as Max’s girlfriend Julia, the film explores the intoxicating power of creativity and the perils of addiction.
Inspired by the tragic life of Amedeo Modigliani, The Curse of Modigliani follows Max, a young American artist struggling in Helsinki. When he discovers an antique diary he believes belonged to Modigliani, his fascination spirals into obsession, leading him down a dark and destructive path. As his visions intensify, his relationships and career crumble, mirroring the fate of the legendary Italian painter. Leo (portrayed by Aksel Spencer), Max’s art manager, starts off as a close friend, but over time, their relationship takes a dark turn, ending in betrayal.
Following her acclaimed sci-fi films Quarantine (2021) and 1984 (2023), Diana Ringo crafts a visually striking and musically immersive experience. The film also critiques the modern art world, where commercial success often overshadows true talent. The film features original paintings by Elena Ringo and was shot in Helsinki in summer 2024.
Edward Pishiyski, known for his roles in acclaimed Netflix series The Sandman and Black Mirror, delivers a gripping performance as Max. The film stars local actors Sakari Viitala (Pohjolan Laki), Ilkka Hautala (Rantabaari), and Tuure Ollila, with Pishiyski as the sole UK-based cast member.
Set for release in summer 2025.
