The new RoboCop TV show gets a showrunner and James Wan will produce
Amazon is working on a new RoboCop TV series. While I was hoping it would be a continuation of the original film…and maybe the second one (We try not to mention RoboCop 3), this show synopsis does suggest it is another reboot.
A giant tech conglomerate collaborates with the local police department to introduce a technologically advanced enforcer to combat rising crime — a police officer who’s part man, part machine.
According to Variety, Peter Ocko joined the project as a writer, executive producer, and showrunner. He has previously worked on Dead Like Me, Pushing Daisies, The Office, Black Sails and a whole lot more. James Wan will executive produce under his Atomic Monster banner.
As well as the films there have been a couple of live-action shows and animated series along with the 2014 reboot film which starred Joel Kinnaman.
While I do love the original RoboCop film, and also enjoy the second one, I am disappointed that the planned film from a few years back fell apart. That would have had Peter Weller back in the role. However, this reminded me that I must pick up the recent RoboCop video game.
I am curious to see what they will do with a new TV show. I just hope they don’t mess it up.
Along with Ocko and Wan, Michael Clear and Rob Hackett of Atomic Monster will also executive produce. Danielle Bozzone is overseeing the project for Atomic Monster. The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios.
