It Happened One Night returns to UK cinemas to celebrate Columbia Pictures’ 100th Anniversary

The classic rom-com and first ever movie to be honoured with all five major Oscars®: Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, and Best Screenplay, IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT is being celebrated as part of Columbia Pictures’100th Anniversary.

Directed by Frank Capra, IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT is also commemorating its 90th birthday this year and can be enjoyed now and throughout the film awards season to Buy or Rent on Digital.

Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert team up for laughs as mismatched lovers in this 1934 screwball comedy classic.

Spoiled Ellie Andrews (Colbert) escapes from her millionaire father (Walter Connolly), who wants to stop her from marrying a worthless playboy. En route to New York, Ellie gets involved with an out-of-work newsman, Peter Warne (Gable). When their bus breaks down, the bickering couple set off on a madcap hitchhiking expedition. Peter hopes to parlay the inside story of their misadventures into a job. But complications fly when the runaway heiress and brash reporter fall in love.

In time for Valentine’s Day, cinema distributor Park Circus is also bringing the 4K restoration of IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT back to the big screen from 9th February 2024 to celebrate the legendary romantic comedy’s 90th anniversary.
