Vertigo Releasing has announced that George Kane’s End-of-the-world clown comedy Apocalypse Clown will be released in cinemas across the UK on 1st September.

The news comes ahead of the film’s sold-out world premiere screening at the Galway Film Fleadh and its North American premiere at Fantasia International Film Festival in Quebec this month.

Filmed on location in Ireland, APOCALYPSE CLOWN tells the tale of a troupe of failed clowns and an ambitious reporter who embark on a chaotic adventure of self-discovery after a mysterious solar event plunges the world into anarchy.

Directed by BAFTA-nominated George Kane (Crashing, Disney’s Wedding Season) APOCALYPSE CLOWN was written by Shane O’Brien, James Walmsley and Demian Fox from the multi-award-winning, Irish comedy outfit Dead Cat Bounce.

The film features hilarious performances from David Earl (Brian & Charles, After Life), Natalie Palamides (Nate — A One Man Show), Amy De Bhrún (The Bachelor Weekend), Fionn Foley (Dublin Oldschool), Tadhg Murphy (Brassic) and Ivan Kaye (Gunpowder Milkshake).

Speaking about the release, director George Kane said “As a fan, I miss the days of the out-there, joke-packed big-screen comedy and ‘Apocalypse Clown’ is ruthlessly devoted to making audiences laugh. It’s blessed with a wonderful cast who fully committed to bringing these loveably twisted weirdos to life, and it demands to be seen with a crowd. It’s unhinged, unpredictable and if it’s not the greatest dystopian Irish clown comedy ever made, it’s definitely Top 5…”.

APOCALYPSE CLOWN was produced by Morgan Bushe and James Dean for Fastnet Films (Black47, What If) in co-production with Namesake Films and Cloé Garbay and Beata Saboova of uMedia. Ed Caffrey and Rupert Preston of Vertigo Releasing, Patrick O’Neill of Wildcard, Celine Haddad of Screen Ireland and John Gleeson and Oisín O’Neill of BCP Asset Management serve as executive producers.

Production investment was provided by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, RTE, Section 481, Vertigo Releasing, BCP, the Belgian tax shelter and Screen Ireland.

APOCALYPSE CLOWN will be released in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on 1st September.
