Three new Star Wars films have been announced
During Star Wars Celebration, three new films have been announced. This is not a new trilogy, but three stories set at different time periods in a galaxy far, far away.
James Mangold (Logan, Indian Jones and the Dial of Destiny) is directing a films set 25,000 years before the current and known timeline and will explore the origins of the very first Jedi. Mangold has described it as “a Biblical epic” and has compared it to The Ten Commandments.
Dave Filoni (The Mandalorian, Star Wars Rebels, The Clone Wars) is directing one featuring the New Republic vs. the Imperial Remnants in a story between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. It will bring together the plot threads in The Mandalorian and other shows, while also drawing upon Legends / Expanded Universe and tell the story of an “epic battle.”
Somehow Rey Palpatine has returned!
Daisy Ridley will be reprising her role as Rey in a new film set 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker, as a Jedi Master rebuilding the new Jedi Order, in a film directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
I must admit that it would have been great having a film featuring Luke Skywalker rebuilding a new Jedi Order, but that ship has sadly sailed.
The films mark the first feature film set in the Star Wars universe since 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
