Nicolas Cage channels Bela Lugosi’s Dracula in the new TV spot for Renfield

Universal Pictures’ Renfield stars Nicholas Hoult as the titular disciple of Dracula, who first appeared in Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel. The film is based on an original story outline from Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead, Invincible).

Hoult is joined by Awkwafina and Ben Schwartz. Nicolas Cage is Dracula and Universal Pictures has released a new TV spot that features Dracula and Renfield first meeting. I love how they have gone for the classic black and white style of the Bela Lugosi Dracula film.

Chris McKay (The Tomorrow War, The Lego Batman Movie) is directing the film, which is described as a modern-day adventure story that is comedic in tone.

The film centers on Renfield (Hoult), who has grown sick and tired of his centuries as Dracula’s (Cage) lackey. The henchman finds a new lease on life and maybe even redemption when he falls for feisty, perennially angry traffic cop Rebecca Quincy (Awkwafina).

Ryan Ridley (Fox’s Ghosted, Cartoon Network’s Rick & Morty) wrote the script. McKay is producing the film with Skybound Entertainment’s film team, including Kirkman, David Alpert, Bryan Furst and Sean Furst, with his producing partner Samantha Nisenboim exec producing.

Renfield hits cinemas on 14th April 2023.
