Tron: Ares is going ahead with Jared Leto as the lead

Greetings, Programs!

We had Tron in 1982, Tron: Legacy in 2010, an animated show in 2012 and now it looks like we will be going back into The Grid with Tron: Ares.

Deadline had the news that Disney is in early negotiations to set Joachim Rønning (Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) to direct Jared Leto in Tron: Ares. The plan is to begin filming this August in Vancouver.

Deals aren’t complete yet, so this could all still implode. After the box office of Morbius, I am a little surprised that Leto will be the lead in this. I always feel he works better in supporting roles. However, he has been attached to the next Tron project since 2017 and he also has a producer credit.

I have always been a fan of Tron so I will take any more films based in that universe.

The Tron: Ares script is by Jesse Wigutow. There are no plot details yet but it will be a sequel to Tron: Legacy, which was directed by Top Gun: Maverick‘s Joe Kosinski.

The producers are Justin Springer (Tron: Legacy), Leto and his Paradox partner Emma Ludbrook, and Jeffrey Silver.

End of line.
