Margot Robbie goes all 2001: A Space Odyssey in the first teaser for Greta Gerwig’s Barbie

Barbie is directed by Greta Gerwig, who co-wrote the script with Noah Baumbach. Filming is underway on the Mattel Films and WB project and this first image of Ryan Gosling as Ken has been released. We saw Margot Robbie as Barbie back in April. The film is due out on 21st July 2023.

Plot details are scarce but Robbie will be joined by Ryan Gosling, Kate McKinnon, Alexandra Shipp, America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Hari Nef and Will Ferrell.

The new teaser has been released and it starts like the opening scenes of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey before we see a quick glimpse of scenes from the film itself.

Gerwig officially signed on to direct the film in July 2021. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Robbie said the film’s goal was to subvert expectations

Producers on “Barbie” also include Robbie via LuckyChap with Tom Ackerley; Mattel’s Robbie Brenner; and David Heyman for Heyday Films. LuckyChap’s Josey McNamara and Mattel’s Ynon Kreiz are executive producers.
