The Swimmers – Watch the trailer for Sally El Hosaini’s new film
Ahead of its World Premiere as the opening night film at the 47th Toronto International Film Festival, Netflix unveiled the official teaser trailer and key art for THE SWIMMERS, directed by Sally El Hosaini and based on the incredible true story of two young sisters who inspired the world.
The Swimmers tells the true story of swimming sisters Yusra and Sarah Mardini’s miraculous journey as refugees from war-torn Syria, all the way to the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The film is helmed by Welsh Egyptian director/writer, Sally El Hosaini, whose last film My Brother the Devil (2013) premiered at Sundance Film Festival winning the World Cinema Cinematography: Dramatic prize before securing El Hosaini the Best British Newcomer prize at the BFI London Film Festival and Best European Film at Berlinale.
The roles of Yusra and Sarah Mardini are played by Lebanese actresses and real-life sisters, Manal and Nathalie Issa. The film also stars Ahmed Malek, Matthias Schweighöfer, Ali Suliman, Kinda Alloush, James Krishna Floyd and Elmi Rashid Elmi.
The film opens in UK cinemas this November and then Netflix on 23rd November 2022.
