British Astronaut Tim Peake announced as UK cameo voice role in Disney and Pixar’s Lightyear

Today, on National Space Day, Disney and Pixar have announced that legendary British astronaut Tim Peake will have a UK cameo voice role in the upcoming release of Lightyear. Tim will lend his voice to ‘Tim’ the Mission Control character in the UK version of Lightyear, which launches into cinemas on the 17th June 2022.

Speaking of his role in the film Tim Peaks says: “I was over the moon to be asked to be a part of Lightyear and to join the Disney and Pixar family! It’s been a huge amount of fun to be on the other side of a spaceship launch and wonderful to see how space continues to inspire and excite so many people. Lightyear is simply brilliant!”

Director of Lightyear, Angus McLane says: “We are huge fans of space, adventures and storytelling here at Pixar and Tim is a real space legend who has tons of incredible stories to tell. We are beyond delighted that Tim will lend his voice to our Mission Control.”

After being marooned on a hostile planet 4.2 million lightyears from Earth, a team of expert scientists and technicians mine new resources to create the specialized fuel needed to reach hyperspeed and go home. It’s up to Buzz Lightyear to man the tenuous test flights to determine if the fuel will work. Knuckles are white and nerves are raw as the launch of the first test flight nears, and Tim, aka Mission Control, begins the countdown: ten… nine… eight… seven… six… five… four… three… two… one… LAUNCH. Tim Peake lends his voice to Tim/Mission Control in the U.K. version  of “Lightyear,” which opens in U.K. cinemas 17 June, 2022.

A sci-fi action adventure and the definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear, the hero who inspired the toy, “Lightyear” follows the legendary Space Ranger after he’s marooned on a hostile planet 4.2 million light-years from Earth alongside his commander and their crew. As Buzz tries to find a way back home through space and time, he’s joined by a group of ambitious recruits and his charming robot companion cat, Sox. Complicating matters and threatening the mission is the arrival of Zurg, an imposing presence with an army of ruthless robots and a mysterious agenda.

The film features the voices of Chris Evans as accomplished Space Ranger Buzz Lightyear, Uzo Aduba as his commander and best friend Alisha Hawthorne and Peter Sohn as Sox. Keke Palmer, Taika Waititi and Dale Soules lend their voices to the Junior Zap Patrol’s Izzy Hawthorne, Mo Morrison and Darby Steel, respectively, and James Brolin can be heard as the enigmatic Zurg. The voice cast also includes Mary McDonald-Lewis as onboard computer I.V.A.N., Isiah Whitlock Jr. as Commander Burnside, Efren Ramirez as Airman Diaz, and Keira Hairston as Young Izzy. Directed by Angus MacLane (co-director “Finding Dory”), produced by Galyn Susman (“Toy Story That Time Forgot”) and featuring a score by award-winning composer Michael Giacchino (“The Batman,” “Up”), Disney and Pixar’s “Lightyear” opens only in theaters on June 17, 2022.
