Oh boy! There is a Quantum Leap sequel series in development

There has been talk for many years about a new Quantum Leap series. The 1990s show starring Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell was one of those shows that everybody seemed to watch. It was so good, even if Dr. Sam Beckett never made it back home! I still remember being blown away when the first episode aired. Such a great concept.

It appears that things are finally moving forward as NBC has given a pilot order for the show. Deadline are saying it is a reboot, but then say it is a follow-up series set in the present time, which would make it a sequel.

It’s been 30 years since Dr. Sam Beckett (Bakula) stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerator and vanished. Now a new team has been assembled to restart the project in the hopes of understanding the mysteries behind the machine and the man who created it.

To be honest, I like the sound of that. The format of the original show means you can very easily carry on telling different stories around the Quantum Leap experiment. The description makes it sound like there will be a team of Leapers as opposed to a person stuck in the process leaping uncontrollably around, but we shall see.

If they are also looking into the mystery of the man who created it then it also gives an opening for Scott Bakula to return. However, so far Bakula is not attached to reprise his role or produce the new show but is aware of the reboot and has had conversations about potentially getting involved.

There were also a few ongoing storylines from the original show that could be developed, such as the other Leapers that Dr. Beckett encountered. The ones who seemed to be making things go wrong.

The new show is written and executive produced by La Brea co-showrunners Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt and executive produced by Blindspot creator Martin Gero as well as Quantum Leap creator/EP Don Bellisario and EP/co-narrator Deborah Pratt.

What are your thoughts on a new Quantum Leap show and what famous events or people would you like to see appear in it?
