Quant – The Mary Quant documentary gets a release date
“The fashionable woman wears clothes…the clothes don’t wear her.” Mary Quant.
Studio Soho is bringing us Quant – a production from Goldfinch Entertainment – the first official feature documentary celebrating the incredible life-story of the trailblazing fashion designer Dame Mary Quant.
One of the most influential artists of the 20th Century worldwide, Mary Quant was at the vanguard of the style revolution of the 60s and 70s, leading the charge away from convention and conservatism through the championing of ground-breaking designs including the miniskirt and hot pants, plus an ingeniously creative partnership with hair stylist, Vidal Sassoon. Quant’s fresh designs and irreverent style shaped a generation and heralded the arrival of the ‘swinging sixties’. Her impact on the business of fashion and contemporary design can still be felt today across the globe.
In her directorial debut, Sadie Frost pairs archive footage with dramatized scenes (featuring Camilla Rutherford as Quant) with striking creativity. Original interviews with Quant family members and titans of the fashion and beauty industry – Jasper Conran, Kate Moss, Charlotte Tilbury & Vivienne Westwood – provide a rich texture for exploring the creative, personal and professional life of a beloved cultural icon.
QUANT is directed by Sadie Frost (Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Love, Honour & Obey). Producer credits include (Set the Thames on Fire and Sky Captain & The World of Tomorrow). The film is Creative Produced by Ben Charles Edwards (Set the Thames on Fire, Father of Flies) and Kirsty Bell (Waiting for Anya, Sometimes Always Never) of Goldfinch Entertainment.
Quant gets a UK cinemas release on 29th October 2021.
