Aaron Taylor-Johnson will play Spider-Man’s Big Bad Kraven The Hunter in a solo movie

Sony keeps working on movies with Spider-Man’s various villains. We’ve had Venom (with Venom: Let There Be Carnage heading our way), the Morbius film is due out at some point and now there is an update on the Kraven the Hunter movie.

Turns out Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Godzilla) will be playing the character, according to The Wrap. This makes it his second Marvel role as he was Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of Ultron. The actor will play Kraven in multiple pictures. I hope we one day get to see Kraven’s Last Hunt adapted for the big screen.

Sony describes the character as “One of Sony Pictures’ universe of Marvel characters, Kraven is one of Marvel’s most iconic and notorious anti-heroes, who has encountered Venom and Black Panther, among many others, as well as being one of Spider-Man’s best known and most formidable enemies.”

The mention of Black Panther is interesting as could we see some larger ties with the MCU being developed?

Born into Russian aristocracy, Sergei Kravinoff a.k.a. Kraven the Hunter is an obsessive big-game hunter who was introduced as a Spider-Man villain in “The Amazing Spider-Man” #15 (1964) and created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. As seen in the original comics, Kravinoff began his career using the typical tools of the hunter but over time he developed a preference to take down large animals with his bare hands. After meeting a Voodoo witch doctor named Calypso, Kravinoff took a herbal potion that enhanced his physical powers give him the strength, speed and senses to match a jungle cat. The potion also extended his life keeping his health and vitality for years to come.

J.C. Chandor (All Is Lost, Margin Call, Triple Frontier) will be directing the film which is being billed as the next chapter of Sony’s universe of Marvel-licensed characters.

Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Richard Wenk wrote the screenplay, while Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing.

The film is due out on 13th January 2023.

With all of the villains getting films, I wonder if we will ever see them go up against Spider-Man?
