Jennifer Grey’s new dance movie may be a Dirty Dancing sequel
Jennifer Grey starred opposite Patrick Swayze in the 1987 film Dirty Dancing. Lionsgate holds the distribution rights to the film.
Grey is set to star in and executive produce a new untitled dance movie for Lionsgate. The new film is set in the 1990s which would be thirty years after the events of Dirty Dancing.
According to Variety, the studio are not commenting on whether it is a sequel to the 1987 film, but with Grey being involved and the setting, it does seem a definite possibility.
Megamix’s Jonathan Levine and Gillian Bohrer are in charge of the untitled project while Mikki Daughtry and Tobias Iaconis (Five Feet Apart) are writing the screenplay.
Lionsgate’s Artisan released the prequel Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights in 2004.
Of course, this may end up being totally unrelated to the original film. We shall just have to wait and see.
