Margot Robbie to star in a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie
Margot Robbie (Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, Bombshell) is teaming up with her Birds of Prey writer, Christina Hodson for a female-led version of Pirates of the Caribbean for Disney.
The untitled project is in early development according to Variety. This new film is being developed separately from the other Pirates of the Caribbean. That one is being developed by Ted Elliott and Craig Mazin (Chernobyl).
There is no word on the plot of either film. The first Pirates of the Caribbean movie is still great fun with Johnny Depp’s performance as Captain Jack Sparrow was lightning in the bottle, but they kept trying to recapture the magic and the sequels dropped in quality as the series went on.
I wonder if the Margot Robbie film will be based on any of the real-life female pirates – Anne Bonny, Mary Read, Rachel Wall – or will it be an all-new character?
Will they be a true reboot or will there be characters and references to the previous films?
Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced all the previous Pirates movies, is attached to produce both projects.
