Check out some of the Film & TV Show Walking Tours in the UK

Train company TransPennine Express (TPE) has launched a brand-new campaign to celebrate the spirit of the North and Scotland. Edinburgh, Liverpool and Manchester have set the scene for many popular TV shows and movie blockbusters, and now you can discover the exact filming locations all first hand with TransPennine Express ‘Behind the Screens’ interactive walking tours.

Research shows that one in five travellers have visited a destination because they saw it on a TV show and with ‘set-jetting’ showing no signs of waning, TransPennine Express is delighted to be able to deliver customers to the exact locations of popular films and TV shows such as Peaky Blinders.

Each walking tour offers a great day out and routes vary in length anywhere from four miles (just under one and a half hours) to up to 8.5 miles (approximately three hours). All routes begin from centrally located train stations, meaning the tour can begin instantly upon departing a TransPennine Express service.

If completing the walking tour in Edinburgh, there are two routes with varying difficulty to choose from. Departing from Edinburgh Waverley train station, the tour can cover either five and a half miles or eight and a half miles. The longer trail includes Arthur’s Seat, which adds an additional one hour to the walk to see the filming location for The Adventures of Greyfriars Bobby. It also adds a more challenging walk for those who want to experience Edinburgh’s beautiful ancient volcano and excellent views over the city. The shorter two-hour walking tour includes locations used in the infamous Trainspotting and the recent blockbuster Avengers: Infinity War.

Filming continues on the steps of St George’s Hall, where Warner Bros are currently shooting scenes for the Harry Potter prequel Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them starring Colin Farrell and Eddie Redmayne.

In Liverpool, the journey begins at Liverpool Lime Street station and takes in iconic locations that have appeared in popular film and TV shows such as Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, Fast and the Furious 6 and Only Fools and Horses. Covering four and half miles, the route can be completed in around one hour and forty-two minutes.

Exiting at Manchester Piccadilly train station, the tour highlights where Manchester was transformed into 1940’s Brooklyn for Captain America and 1920’s Birmingham for Peaky Blinders. To walk the route in full will cover a total of four miles and take just under an hour and a half from start to finish.

Whilst out and about on a TransPennine Express walking tour, there is also the chance to win a city break for 2 which includes a behind the scenes tour and weather masterclass at the ITV studios in Manchester. 2 runners up will also win a £50 Netflix gift voucher each. Explorers can enter by simply taking a picture at any location on the tour, sharing them on Instagram or Twitter using #TPEBehindTheScenes and tagging it with #Edinburgh, #Liverpool or #Manchester.

Caroline Anchor, Head of Marketing for TransPennine Express commented, “Our latest campaign allows walking tour users to discover the rich history of each of the three northern cities but with an added discovery element. The Behind the Screens walking tours are the perfect day out for groups of friends searching to find the real backdrops of some of their favourite films and TV shows.
At TransPennine Express, we are passionate about the destinations that we serve and hope that our bespoke tours will help others to discover yet more fascinating insights in to these wonderful northern cities that have so much to offer.”
