Top Gun: Maverick adds more to the cast
The sequel is called Top Gun: Maverick and Tom Cruise is back as Maverick. The sequel will be set in a world of drone technology and will explore the end of the era of dogfighting, with Cruise portraying a flight instructor.
Val Kilmer will return to play Tom “Iceman” Kazansky in the sequel, while Miles Teller (Whiplash) has been cast as the son of Goose and Maverick’s new protege. Jennifer Connelly is on board as the female lead.
Variety announced that Monica Barbaro (UnREAL; Splitting Up Together) has joined the film. She will be playing a pilot who is also Teller’s love interest.
Meanwhile, Deadline had the news that Thomasin McKenzie (Jojo Rabbit), Charles Parnell (A Million Little Pieces), Jay Ellis (Insecure), Bashir Salahuddin (GLOW), and Danny Ramirez (Assassination Nation) are all joining the cast.
McKenzie is playing the daughter of Jennifer Connelly’s character, Parnell is playing an admiral, Ellis is playing a pilot, Salahuddin is playing an engineer, and Ramirez is playing another pilot.
Joseph Kosinski, who worked with Cruise on Oblivion, is directing. Peter Craig, Justin Marks and Eric Warren Singer are writing the script. The film currently has a release date of 12th July 2019.
