Cool Short: Black Sand – A Sandman Story

Bernhard Pucher got in touch about this excellent short film he directed based on Neil Gaiman’s Sandman.

Called Black Sand – A Sandman Story it recently won Best Film at the Fan Film Awards in Los Angeles. I do love the Sandman comics and this is a great little short that takes a small element of the huge story and does great things with it. The film is set within the Sandman universe as established in Preludes & Nocturnes.

Richard cannot dream, and has turned to drugs to escape his reality. But when he hears that his dealer has a new drug which can make your dreams come true, he is desperate to get his hands on it.

It was shot using an Arri Alexa camera system in Hackney, London over 3 days and it stars Sid Phoenix (Florence Foster Jenkins) and Michelle Ryan (Bionic Woman).

The short is peachy keen! A great sad little story, that is well acted and made with lots of love for Sandman. A most worthwhile watch and only 12 minutes long (plus the credits).

Check it out below (it is NSFW) and share your thoughts in the comments.
